Marketing events, annual international exhibitions and fairs are held between the countries in Almaty and Issyk-Kul
The interaction between the two countries in the context of globalization and geopolitical changes in tourism is undergoing a transformation, resulting in the emergence of new forms, Kazinform News Agency reports.
This was announced by Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyyal Kenzhematova, at the roundtable themed ‘Kazakhstan in time of changes: innovations, investments and human rights’.
According to Kyyal Kenzhematova, the business sectors of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan collaborate actively on tourism. The sides hold joint meetings on an annual basis to discuss issues in this area.
“Our countries are creating and implementing Great Silk Road projects. A vivid example of this is the 5th World Nomad Games, which were held in Kazakhstan last year. Holding the event allows to strengthen cultural and sports ties between nomadic peoples, as well as to increase interest in traditional sports”, - she said.
Marketing events, annual international exhibitions and fairs are held between the countries in Almaty and Issyk-Kul. The international project of the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC) is implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank.
The visa-free regime between the countries, as well as the simplification of customs procedures, have contributed to the growth of mutual tourist flows.
“Popular cross-border routes along the Tian Shan, excursions to the cities of the Great Silk Road attract tourists from abroad to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Joining efforts in promoting combined routes, sharing experience, attracting investments allows to interest more foreign tourists and strengthen ties between the countries”, - Kyyal Kenzhematova added.
In the current era of change, she emphasized the importance of fostering a unified tourism sector that can effectively compete in the global market and unlock the vast potential of Central Asia.
According to statistical data, the number of individuals who crossed the border of Kyrgyzstan exceeded 16.9 million in 2024, of which 2.5 million were citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This figure represents an increase of 120,000 compared to 2023.
It was reported earlier that Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan would build industrial trade and logistics complex.
